Question about the movie, “Castaway” with Tom Hanks?

I have 2 questions actually.

1. Where did Tom Hanks land at after the storm? I mean, where is the island located?
2. I’ve seen on youtube how you open a coconut and I saw one video where a guy cracked open a coconut on a rock and he did that with no problems. Tom tried to open the coconut the same way but could never get it open so he had to use a rock to cut it open. Why was it so hard for Tom to break it open?

1. I’m not sure, I guess they kept it a secret and fictional, so the whole story would support itself by being alone in an unknown island.

2. I once tried to open a coconut using a big knife, like the ones people selling coconuts in the beach use, and it’s actually very hard. You have to know what you’re doing. It looks easy but it’s hard, specially when you’ve never done it before.
