Directors
Dario Argento : Suspiria, Inferno, and Phenomena are three
dreams/nightmares caught on film. Visually striking (especially Suspiria, which I saw in a huge theatre on it’s original release). Evidently his obsessions changed and I lost interest in his later movies except for Opera which combines
flowing and flying camerawork, perils for the heroine which
foreshadow the “torture porn” of recent vintage with a ridiculous finale. His latest movie completes the “Three Mothers” trilogy begun with Suspiria. Hope he is back in opium dream form.
Actors
Colin Clive. No one personified the tortured spirit more than he did
in the first two Frankenstein films and especially Mad Love.
Also have to vote for Christian Bale as he can play any part.
My favorite modern actor.
If it’s not out of order I’d like to name my least favorite
director and actor.
Director Tobe Hooper. If the DVD box doesn’t read TCM1 or 2 run the other way. This man has made a living from his Chainsaw reputation for over twenty years.
Actor Robert Englund. Will work for money. Mr. Direct to home video.
