What are your favorite/best out-of-character acting performances in movies?

After seeing Dark Knight…I started thinking about acting when the actor’s real personality is completely eclipsed by their role.

What are your top five out-of-character acting performances?

5. Russel Crowe (John Forbes) – Beautiful Mind
4. Charlize Theron (Aileen Wuronos) – Monster
3. Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump) – Forrest Gump
2. Heath Ledger (Ernest Del Mar) – Brokeback Mountain
1. Heath Ledger (Joker) – Dark Knight

I know…hate me for putting the most recent one first…but his performance was captivating.
OMG! I completely forget Daniel Day Lewis (Daniel Plainview) – There Will Be Blood. I might have to put that #1.

Yeah…definitely #1…sorry Russell…out of top 5

johnny depp has been good but his jack sparrow performance and sweeny todd are wicked overrated. they were good but they dont deserve all the praise that hes bengetting for jack sparrow. Heath Ledger’s Joker has probobly been one of the best or best characters ive seen..and its not just because im hopping on the bandwagon of everybody loving heath ledger and paying their respects, he left such an impression on me even after the movie was over. He stole every scene he was in, and the ones he wasnt ini still was wondering when he wouldbe back on screen. its terrible that hes gone but this performance is an amazing way to be remembered by
