A sincere but weird question?

This is an open question for my fellow Christians as well as everyone else. I thought about a crazy “what if” scenario the other day and I have managed to formulate a question out of it.

For those of you who may not have seen the Tom Hanks movie “Castaway” by now…….this is a spoiler alert to you.

What if you were a married person, and this sort of “crashed, burned & ended up on a stranded desert island” thing happened to you? And then in Hollywood format, you built a boat out of every tree on the island, and somehow got rescued 4 years after the fact?

Now you come home and your wife/husband has counted you as dead & moved on in his/her life…….even married another.

How on earth would this be handled? I would be heartbroken to see my wife with another man but……….I was dead, remember?

How would you handle this?

Under that scenario, I couldn’t be mad at her. I would expect her to go on (although begrudgingly, I’d hope) after 4 years. That’s a very long time to wait for anything or anyone.

Hanks used Helen Hunt’s character as a glimmer of hope. When he finally returned home, he saw that she’d moved on, although she still loved him. He had hoped to return to life as it was, but the gears were still moving in his absence.

I guess the message is ultimately that life stops for nothing and nobody. We’re all just cogs in the wheel…worker ants looking to make it through another day.
