Sightseeing New York on a Romantic Break

If youre looking for the perfect destination for a romantic mini-break, the city that never sleeps should be top of your list. From a moonlight rendezvous atop the Empire State Building to the more modern love story of Carrie and Big, a break in New York will conjure up some truly romantic memories.

The Empire State Building

Is there a place in the USA more romantic than the Empire State building? Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr made the Empire State Building synonymous with clandestine meetings since 1957, and years later Tom Hanks and Meg Ryans moonlight rendezvous upped the ante. The ESB is now a common place for marriage proposals but if youre not at that stage of your relationship yet it can simply be a beautiful place for sightseeing New York. The building isnt known as the Cathedral of the Skies for nothing and every year on Valentines Day, several couples take their vows on what was once the tallest building in the world. Even King Kong couldnt resist bringing a date up here.

Barbetta

If you really want to impress a date, skip sightseeing New York and try to get a reservation at one of the hottest tables in town. Barbetta isnt only the oldest restaurant in town its also the most opulent, and who can resist sampling succulent Italian food whilst sat on authentic 18th Century Italian renaissance furniture. Surprisingly, it isnt the inside that locals are clamouring to get reservations for, but the outside city garden. Magnolia, wisteria, oleander, jasmine and gardenia all surround the water feature making it feel more country estate than city garden.

Carriage Rides in Central Park

Carriage rides, through Central Park, are at their cosiest in the snow when they have a touch of Dr Zhivago about them. However, thats not to say they arent suitable for wooing a partner on a year-round basis. Who can forget Carrie and Bigs summer carriage ride through Central Park the evening before he leaves for Napa? The carriages in Central Park are traditionally known as Hansom Cabs and a ride in one is bound to create lifelong memories.

Rockefeller Centre

You dont need to have watched the film Serendipity to know how romantic the ice-skating rink at the Rockefeller Centre is. However, remembering the films heart-warming climax will make this a must-visit destination for any fans of romantic movies. You and your partner dont need to be Torvil and Dean to show off your skills on the rink, but grabbing your partners hands and gliding past the bejewelled Christmas tree is sure to melt the hardest of hearts and give you winter memories to cherish forever.

Tiffanys

Sightseeing New York is not complete without a foray to Tiffanys, but while the worlds most famous jewellery shop doesnt serve breakfast, it does sell some of the worlds most highly sought-after jewellery. Tiffanys dates back to 1837 and is recognisable by its beautiful granite exterior. Most people remember the store as being the place where Holly Golightly stands peering through the window after being on a date all night. However, the New York store also appeared in Sweet Home Alabama, starring actress Reese Witherspoon.
