I would like to be alerted to the arrival of a new email by a sound or something when I am just in the room.?

I know it is cheesy, but the Tom Hanks Movie where you hear for both he and Meg Ryan “you have mail” would be nice or a tone to alert me to the new email while I am engaged in another activity. How may I accomplish this? Thanks.

First get the wav file that you want (A search for ‘You’ve got mail wav” ought to turn it up).

I am assuming that you have XP and Outlook or Outlook Express.
First, On the Tools menu in Outlook, click Options.
On the General tab, select the Play sound when new messages arrive check box.

Then start–>settings–>control panel–>sounds and audio devices–>Audio tab–>new mail notification–>browse to the wav file you are using.–>apply–>OK
