Does anyone know what this film is called?

I can’t really remember it. It was out around 2000. It was about a guy who has always wanted to go to space but he’s a bit stupid. In the beginning he’s in a washing machine as a boy. He manages to become a NASA astraunaut after something happens to on eof the crew members. The monkey steals his bed. Oh, they’re going to mars. He paints the roof with food. It’s a picture of him and the monkey touching fingers, like in E.T. I think the main character was Tom Hanks, but it doesn’t have it in his filmography, so it might not be him. Any ideas?

It’s called Rocket Man. And it was not Tom Hanks. It was Harland Williams.
