What is the name of this 80′s or 90′s movie with a human-looking robot?

Ok. There was a movie I saw a few times when I was a kid about a robot that looked very human (and like Tom Hanks but it wasn’t him). I can’t remember much but I do remember that he walked through a metal detector and set it off until he got down to his underwear and messed with the detector to shut it off. And then this other part where he played high speed chess with another robot guy. Oh, and his chest opened. Please help!
